2017-18 BFT Survey of Employee Satisfaction

BFT conducts a Survey of Employee Satisfaction each year as a service to BISD and its employees. The purpose of the survey is to identify what is working well in the district as well as the areas that need improvement. This goal is in line with BFT’s mission, which is to improve pay and working conditions for employees and achievement for students.

The Bastrop Federation of Teachers Endorses BISD School Bonds

The Bastrop Federation of Teachers executive committee voted unanimously on Oct. 13 to support the $75 million bond proposition for the Bastrop ISD and the Tax Ratification Election to increase the Bastrop ISD’s maintenance and operations tax rate by 13 cents.

These proposals will be on the Nov. 8 general election ballot.

“The improvements that be funded by these proposals will benefit our entire community,” BFT President Kim Chapman said. “We encourage the voters of BISD to support these two proposals.”

April Update

Leadership training: April 28, 5-7 p.m. at BBE room 305. This is a great opportunity for building reps and others to build their leadership knowledge and skills. If you are a building rep, this is essential training. If you are not, but you want to help your union make BISD a better place for students and staff, this training is for you. Dena Donaldson will lead the training and BFT will provide snacks.

Improve Teacher Workload

Improve Teacher Workload

In response to an outcry from members and non-members alike, BFT held a listening tour in the spring of 2014 at several campuses and invited all faculty and staff to participate. BFT listened as teachers, paras, and support staff told of needless and redundant paperwork, of meetings excessive in number and length, and in reduced autonomy among professional staff.

From what we heard on our listening tour, we developed the plan below, originally containing 12 items, consolidated into seven.
